How can I have a "real" website where the page names connect under the domain ( i.e. http://www.mywebsite.com/politics/page.html ) Do I always need to have the domain name and webhosting be with the same people? Web 101, I know. Basically, to run a website under a domain, does the domain buyer have to be the same as the web host for it to be a "real" website where all of the individual pages are under that domain name? Or can I buy a domain name from someone else and stil have pages like http://www.mywebsite.com/games/index.html , etc. etc. If I can buy the domain from someone other than the web host, how would I arrange to have the pages fall under the domain name ? A domain forwarding setup did not work. |

You can have the domain name from any ICANN accredited domain registrar, few popular domain registrara are: GoDaddy.com, enom.com, DynaDot.com, DomainSite.com etc.
After you've registered the domain you may host it on virtually any web host, you may even host the site on your own computer. You'll have to enter the Web Host's "Name Server" address at the domain registrar provided domain control panel. All web host provide there NameServer information on the time of web hosting purchase. |
